REGULATORY UPDATES

CARB recently approved amendments to the Statewide Truck and Bus Regulation to offer businesses more flexibility and extended deadlines California Fleet Solutions has provided a brief summary of some of the requirements below . Overview of Changes to Statewide Truck and Bus:

-Vehicles with a GVWR of 14,001-26,000: The retrofit requirements were eliminated. There was also a four year compliance delay until 2015, when fleets must begin replacing vehicles or engines with 2010 engines. All vehicles must meet 2010 emissions by 2023.

Vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 or more:
      1. PM filter requirements were delayed by 1 year to 2012 and replacement requirements delayed by 2 years to 2015.
      2. Retrofit requirements will start in 2012 with MY 1996-1999 vehicles.
      3. Replacement requirements will begin in 2015 with pre-1994 vehicles.  
      4. All vehicles must meet 2010 emissions by 2023.
      5. Phase-in alternative compliance option to spread out retrofit compliance
      6. Expanded credits completing early retrofits or buying hybrid or alternative fueled vehicles
      7. Expanded credits for truck retirements
      8. New credit for fleets that prepared for the regulation by buying more new vehicles than normal, starting in 2007.

School Buses

All school buses will be required to be retrofitted or achieve PM BACT between 2012 - 2014.
